There have been a number of recent developments in the U.S. estate tax regime, and these can have significant implications for certain Canadians, as well as for U.S. citizens residing in Canada. Many Canadians and practitioners are unaware of these U.S. taxes and reporting requirements. This webinar will discuss recent U.S. tax developments impacting many Canadians who hold US property, or those Canadians who still hold U.S. citizenship. It will provide an introductory overview of U.S estate taxes, as they apply to Canadians. Note that this webinar is not intended to provide detailed U.S. tax calculations or advice, rather it will focus on highlighting generally what liabilities may exist for residents of Canada and offer some alternatives for mitigating liability. The webinar will, however, include some high-level examples demonstrating the computation of estate tax.
